In 2022, the Háttér Society is organizing LGBT History Month for the tenth time. On the occasion of the milestone anniversary, we will present, together with Blinken OSA, the exhibition Records Uncovered 2.0: LGBTQI+ histories in Central and Southeastern Europe. In connection with the theme, we will screen the documentary Out in East Berlin - Lesbians & Gays in the GDR, which will be introduced by one of the directors, Jochen Hick.

The spread of the internet played an important role in the creation of the first trans community in Hungary. Online platforms, such as Bettina's Forum, provided an opportunity for this; members of the Hungarian transgender, transvestite, and crossdresser community later started to meet in person as well. That's how the Tranny Circle of Friends was born, and we talk to former members.

Lindy grew up in a small town in Sweden, where he was mocked by other children for being different. With the help of his imagination, Lindy created coping mechanisms which later became the foundation for his artistic career. As a boy, he was Little Light, who could spread light across the world. As an adult, he performs in stage shows. But when he receives an unexpected offer, to play himself on stage, he is not sure he is ready.

After the 1989 regime change, gay and lesbian themes appeared much more freely in Hungarian literature than before, and since the 2000s, we can also find trans-themed literary works. What characterizes the Hungarian gay, queer literature? Zoltán Csehy, the author of Szodoma és környéke (Sodom and its area), talks about this with András Gerevich, Ádám Nádasdy, and Judit Szabó.

We talk to Kurt Krickler, former head of the Homosexuelle Initiative (HOSI) Wien, Andrzej Selerowicz, former President of EEIP, and John Clark, former Secretary-General of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA).

Unsatisfied with the result of a homicide investigation in Warsaw’s gay community, an officer in 1980s Communist Poland resolves to uncover the truth. But what is the truth about the alleged Hyacinth files? Are the police really monitoring, listing, and harassing gays? Can we find out who is behind the murders? After the film, we talk to Andrzej Selerowicz, a Polish LGBT activist living in Vienna, who wrote the first book on the subject.
Attention: Visiting Blinken OSA is allowed only with a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate. When you arrive, wear a mask and keep your distance.
The exhibition was organized by the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives and the Háttér Archive and Library.
The events are part of the LGBT History Month program, which aims to show the presence of LGBT people in history, to highlight the LGBT past in Hungary and abroad and the values created by members of the minority, while also playing an important role in building the LGBT community.
