Led by a fearless chief correspondent, the reporters at Khabar Lahariya, who are both women and Dalits (considered "untouchables" according to the Hindu caste system), bravely face everyday discrimination to expose long-standing injustices. The reporters listen patiently to the many victims of violence, incompetence, and oppression in India's Uttar Pradesh. Most have little experience with journalism or smartphone technology but together focus on the bigger picture to take on stories ranging from elections to corruption to sectarianism, through their newly digitized news service. A powerful and uplifting documentary about the fearless fight for truth and justice in the face of hostile patriarchy and the rise of the right.

Day of Hungarian Poetry - Fearless Event Series campaign

April 11, 2022, all-day

April 11, is Hungarian Poetry Day, and to mark the occasion, Blinken OSA is launching an initiative called Poems without Fear. The initiative is based on a series of videos in which young actors recite contemporary and classic Hungarian poems, all of which express some kind of courageous stand. The special feature of the initiative is that the actors recite with fear, with stuttering language. But at one point, the audience can decide whether they want to hear the poem in another form.

The program is in Hungarian

The poems are available on the Blinken OSA Archive's Youtube channel and Instagram page.

The campaign is supported by feat. agency

Curatorial guided tour in Hungarian

Friday, April 1, 2022, at 5:30 p.m.

Curator: István Rév

Registration: https://forms.office.com/r/zxcgKQYybB

Blinken OSA is one of the largest repositories of uncensored speech, anti-authoritarian samizdat texts, published and distributed without official permission. To mark the centenary of the birth of nuclear physicist and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov, the 50th anniversary of the founding of Index on Censorship, the most important journal for freedom of expression, and the 40th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of Beszélő, the journal of the Hungarian democratic opposition, in collaboration with the alternative University of Theater and Film (Freeszfe), we decided to commemorate, recall, and raise awareness of the importance of fearless speech in a series of events. The exhibition Fearlessis part of this series of events.

The exile of CEU from Budapest—the violent suppression of academic freedom, freedom of thought, and expression—played as much of a role in the exhibition as the exemplary stand taken by the students of the University of Theatre and Film against the encroachment of power.

The program is part of the event series fearless, cooperation between Blinken OSA and Freeszfe Association.

Uppercase Print (2020) documentary excerpt, Romanian with English and Hungarian subtitles directed by Radu Jude HI Film Productions

In 1981, chalk slogans written in uppercase letters started appearing in public spaces in the Romanian city of Botoşani. They demanded freedom, alluded to the democratic developments taking place in Romania’s socialist sister countries, or simply called for improvements in the food supply. The secret police investigation discovered that they were done by Mugur Călinescu, a high school student at the time. The young boy was summoned for questioning on several occasions and subsequently fell into a rapidly deteriorating state of health, eventually dying in 1985. Rediscovering his case in the files of the Romanian secret police, theatre director Gianina Cărbunariu created a documentary play based on this material. Film director Radu Jude restages the play interspersed with the archival footage from Romanian TV of the era. Mugur’s secret personal story is embedded in the collective Romanian history, to honor the forgotten young hero who fell victim to the regime.
