Welcome to Sodom – Where do our used phones end up? What kind of lives emerge from our electronic waste?

The new documentary by the directors of A German Life  (directed by Christian Krönes - Florian Weigensamer, Austria - Ghana, 2018, 90min, English, English and Hungarian subtitles)

After the screening, Logan Strenchock, CEU’s Sustainability Officer, will ask our guests, Gergely Simon from Greenpeace Hungary and Ervin Tihanyi, head of electronic waste handling at Intermetal Recycling, about their experiences during their visit to "Sodom".

Synopsis:
Agbogbloshie, Accra is the largest electronic waste dump in the world. About 6,000 women, men and children live and work here. They call it "Sodom". Every year roughly 250,000 tons of computers, smartphones, air conditioning tanks and other devices from a faraway, electrified and digitalized world end up here, illegally. The interwoven destinies of the protagonists unravel in this complex story of an apocalyptic society. The trailer is available here.
