Yellow-Star Houses Remembrance Day

OSA Archivum's Yellow-Star Houses project culminates on June 21, 1944, the 70th anniversary of the forced mass relocation of 220,000 Budapest Jews into around 2,000 designated buildings marked with a yellow Star of David:the "yellow-star houses." This network of houses was established by a Budapest mayoral decree of June 16, 1944, with the aim of concentrating a quarter of the city's population prior to deportation.

June 21, 2014 promises to be the largest civic commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Year in Hungary: concerts, literary readings, performances, discussions, exhibitions and more in front of many of the 1,600 former yellow-star houses throughout the city, from 8 am until midnight. Over 160 civic organizers and 40 participating institutions will be holding commemorative events on the day, which also coincides with this year's Night of the Museums. A number of major museums and galleries are also taking part, with related exhibitions, events and programs.

The closing event takes place at OSA Archivum on Arany János Street 32 from 9 pm, including a projection of videos of the day's events onto OSA's building.
