No More Tradition's Chains Shall Bind Us...
The exhibition "Végképp eltörölni/No more tradition's chains shall bind us..." presents a selection of around 300 posters from the Rákosi and Kádár eras (1949-1989) which served as political propaganda, promoting the public morality of the new Socialist era, the “correct way” to live, or which advertized film premiers and other cultural events. Alongside the posters, the exhibit presents excerpts from documentary and propaganda films of those times, which celebrated the foundation of the “People’s Democracy” in 1949 and the adoption of the Stalinist constitution, and depicted the joyous and familiar idyll of the construction of the “Socialist” state in the following decades. The exhibit also presents the contemporary “Table of the Fundamental Law”, together with brochures and leaflets popularizing the Stalinist constitution and explaining its revolutionary relevance. Passages from the Political Declaration on National Cooperation and the National Avowal adopted in 2010 and 2011 are used as captions, placing the exhibition in its contemporary context.
The exhibition is in Hungarian and English (except the films).
Admission free.
